The real story

2014 - Doug Stephen started testing his Nashville Chicken and Classic Burger recipes at the critically acclaimed merchants workshop in East Vancouver, over a period of 4 years he perfected his recipes.

2018 - Downlow Chicken Shack launches and is an immediate hit in East Vancouver, Canada.

2019 - Downlow Burgers launches in The American, Vancouver after years of popping up in Downlow Chicken Shack, becoming another well known spot.

2021 - A friend comes up with the name Real Burger, the name is brought to life by Todd Beebe, hand painting our window signage.

2022 - With Peter’s experience from the beginning of Downlow Chicken and Burgers, Peter tests and perfects the recipes with New Zealand ingredients for the launch of Real Burger with Doug’s blessing. Real Burger launches in Birkenhead, Auckland.

2024 - We test and finalize on a blend for our in-house mince, consisting of 100% NZ grass-fed beef chuck and brisket cuts.

2025 - With Fabian's experience as a long-time French baker, we tested and perfected our signature Potato Bun recipe for production.

Our In-House Pickles are made with locally sourced cucumbers and always brined for 24 hours.
Our Nashville Chicken is always brined for 24 hours, buttermilk dipped and double coated with original recipe, our chicken is humanely raised with no hormones or antibiotics ever.
Our Smash Patty is 100% Grass-Fed New Zealand Beef brisket and chuck cuts, pressed down on our griddle for a crispy sear and juicy center.
Our Sauces are made with adjustments by Peter to local ingredients for Doug’s original recipe.
Our Thickshake Syrups are made using our original recipe, 100% all-natural with no artificial ingredients.
Our Cheese Sauce is made with real New Zealand cheese and milk from pasture-based farming.
Our Crinkle-Cut Fries are sourced from 100% New Zealand grown Agria potatoes, without any artificial ingredients and GMO free.
